The Dark Underside of New Jersey Dog Breeders: Genetic Testing Results Are In!
As you may recall, I purchased two dogs, a 10 week old Havanese puppy and a supposed 9- month old male Havanese “rescue puppy” named Marcus (now called Moose, see pic) from a New Jersey dog breeder named Dawn aka Grace Abrams. From the outset, we had suspicions about Moose’s age and true heritage. Our suspicions were heightened after our veterinarian announced that Moose was much older than 9 months and that he was suffering from ear and urinary tract infections, two types of intestinal worms and had 4 loose teeth because of periodontal disease. Also, Moose didn’t look anything like Sandy. Based on photos we found online, Moose looked more like a Maltese than a Havanese—something that was verified by casual conversations with Maltese owners and many veterinary professionals.
Because of my molecular biology training, I wondered whether a genetic test, similar to those used for human genetic testing, was commercially available for dogs. Much to my delight, I discovered that Mars Veterinary had developed a test called the Wisdom Panel that can be use to analyze and verify or refute the lineage of over 135 breeds of dogs. Because of our growing suspicions, my wife and I decided to have both of our dogs tested to verify their breed designations. We received the Wisdom Panel results for Sandy and Moose last week. Like other things in life there is some good news and some bad news. First, let me give you the good news.
The Wisdom Panel results revealed that Sandy is truly a Havanese (there were negligible traces of other breeds but they were consistent with the Havanese breed as a whole). Now, the bad news (which is actually good news for us). Moose the supposed 9-month old Havanese is in reality a mixed breed dog whose lineage consists of equal amounts of Havanese, Miniature Poodle, Shih Tzu and Maltese. This result coupled with the bogus Havanese pedigree papers that Ms. Abrams gave us when we purchased Moose, suggests that Ms. Abrams, who claims to be an experienced Havanese breeder, likely committed fraud when she sold him to us. After all, how could an experienced Havanese breeder like Dawn, who has been selling “Havanese” puppies for the past few years, mistake a 2 year old mixed breed dog for a 9-month old Havanese puppy?
Despite mounting evidence against Dawn and her mother, Donna Roberts, they continue to sell dogs to unsuspecting would-be pet owners. With this in mind, I recently came across several new ads likely posted by Dawn and Donna using old and sometimes new aliases to sell their dogs!

Moose goes from 5 years old to 3 years old and now he's 2 years old. He goes from having 6 loose teeth, to 4 loose teeth and now he has periodontal disease. Then 3 days later he has a unrinary tract infection and now he has two types of worms. How come the dog had no problems before? Marcus is a good dog and he is a purebred. The traces of the other breeds are right in line with most Havanese, especially the imports. Where do you think the breed originated from, German Shepherds? You adopted him AS IS Do you know what that means? I am not the breeder of this dog so if you still cannot accept the fact of his heritage bring him back and I will refund your money. I have several people who want him, several people who think you are a jerk and don't deserve to have him.
Well how do feel now Mr. Mintz? Sandy, the puppy that was sold to you is pure. And Moose is also a purebred. Traces of the other breeds are bound to be found as that is where the Havanese originated from and please remember that Moose was a rescue, not bred by My daughter, so where is your FRAUD? When we take in a rescue dog we can only relate what is told to us but since I knew that dog since he was a pup there was no doubt in our minds that he was a purebred. So now you want to continue to slander us when you yourself have proof in your hands that you were not "defrauded" like you claim and no one else has been either. Shame on you, Mr. Mintz.
Oh by the way Mr. Mintz please take a copy of the results for Sandy to your "EXPERT" Groomer who Claimed Sandy was a yorkie mix. So much for her EXPERTISE.
As far as Moose (Marcus) I can show you a few Pure Champion bloodline Havanese dogs that look exactly like him. Same structure, same coat texture, etc.
The little dog, Sambo (another rescue-bred by a breeder in Florida) has the same body type and coat that Marcus has and he has Havanese papers and is pure.
Do yourself a favor, go to a dogshow and watch the Havanese in the ring. There are many types out there instead of drilling everyone and their brother about your dogs. (People who wouldn't know a purebred if they fell over it) Slandering us doesn't make you right nor does it make you look like the "Big Man" you think you are.
To ANYONE reading the garbage posted by this idiot and his partner in slander, Libby Williams, AKA Mary Elizabeth Williams, Mary Ann Williams, Maryann Elizabeth Williams. Now she is the one with the alias, these are her true alias not her relatives and friends like she has posted for me and my daughter. We are both groomers and as such we do run into alot of rescue dogs and pups. We do not go to Pa. like Libby and her friends do and purchase puppies. One of Libby's best friends broker puppies but you will never see her name on her site, and she poses as the Breeder. I guess that is why Libby wants to run all the Breeders out of NJ so her and her firend can profit more. Making a million dollars a year in donations to pay her bills is not enough. Why she has me picked out as her favorite "Breeder" I have no idea. None of my pups were declared unfit for purchase by a vet within the 14 days allowed by LAW, none of my pups died on people. Anyone who bought a dog and gave me their correct address got their papers. I have asked for 5 years now for Libby to send me her proof of her statements and guess what people I got nothing and that is because she has nothing. Just like Mr. Mintz who with his DNA has proved to the world he bought a purebred Havanese (you know the one the "groomer" told him was a yorkie) and "ADOPTED" a "RESCUE" Havanese which was NOT bred by my daughter nor myself. And now claims the dog is a mutt which he is not. Mr. Mintz does all he can to slander anyone in my family included to minor children that raise their own dogs. He is a bully and went so far to abuse my vet Dr. Cohen and myself. In both cases he got what he paid for so why is he angry, I guess he is used to people jumping to his every demand. He called my daughter's house and threatened her because the very knowledgable vet told him the ADOPTED DOG was 5 years old and he wanted his money back, even though he had the dog's papers right in his hands, to date he has not furnished the name of the vet to my daughter. My daughter was polite and told him to bring the dog back and she would refund his money in full. That was not to Mr. Mintz's liking he wanted the money and the dog. Now we all know Mr. Mintz has his PHD, he will tell you that fifty times in a 5 min. conversation but I would like to know where is his common sense. He adopts a dog, he is not happy with the dog, any person with common sense would return the sog and get their money and be done with it. My daughter had other people who would have liked to adopt the dog that was no problem. Marcus would have gotten a home in fact he would have gotten a better home, a home where he would not be judged everyday or drug around like a speciman to be dissected by a bunch of people who only want to find fault.
I feel sorry for the other people Mr. Mintz and Libby Williams are slandering such as Kathy in Barnegat, which has nothing to do with me. Everyone who sells Havanese in NJ has been targeted by these two. Oh and I would like to add that the name on Paul- Shady Oak Havanese was changed to Key West Havanese to prove to a Lawyer how LIBBY WILLIAMS stalks my family and friends. It took her less than a week to stalk the change.
